Acacia Bonsai Tree – Roots – Most acacias have a root system that is not conducive to bonsai cultivation. Shortening the tap root over a period of 2-4 seasons forces the growth of a number of adventitious roots. Over time, this will produce a functional flat root system. Good surface roots are rarely formed by acacias. Pieter du Plessis is experimenting with using a washing machine to layer taproot on young trees – the results are promising. He removes the dead taproot and plants the trees on the shingles.
Bark – Most acacia bark is rough and tends to flake. The exception is Acacia karroo, which has fairly smooth bark when young.

Stems – Acacia trunks are usually flexible and solitary when young, but at a later stage they branch into low, heavy branches. Healing is relatively easy if the tree is encouraged to expand. Pruning will, in most cases, yield new branches. Recording can be problematic as trees only have a few sparse branches at a time.

Branches – Branches are often mistaken for multi-stems due to their size and weak branching. It is known that the branches will weaken if they grow downwards. Foliage – The species has difficulty producing a large number of small branches, but this is compensated for by forming compound bipinnate leaves. Each branch bears many leaflets instead of long petioles and thin branches.

Broadleaf evergreen species to consider include boxwood, privet, fuchsia, acacia and jade. Most of these are tropical or subtropical plants, so they are best grown indoors as bonsai plants.
Of course, you can not ignore other more popular bonsai specimens such as conifers and pines. Spruce, yew and larch are the most commonly used species for bonsai gardening.
Since bonsai means “in a container” in Japanese, there are very few plants that cannot be grown in bonsai. As long as you have the knowledge to grow plants this way, you should have no problem making them work in a bonsai setting.
Bonsai trees vary in how much water they need, but in most cases, you should keep them moist and the soil moist. It is best to spray your plant with a spray bottle filled with water, but you can water deeply every few days.

Watering whenever the topsoil appears dry, remember that overwatering can be just as problematic as underwatering. An overwatered tree has yellow leaves and wilted branches.
Naturally, soil plays a valuable role in determining how moist your plant will be. Choose soil that provides good drainage and add larger particles, such as rocks or volcanic rock, to introduce more air.

Fertilize before you get your plant and make sure your tree is well watered whenever you fertilize during the growing season. This will prevent the fertilizer from burning the roots of your tree. Be sure to read all application instructions carefully.
