This product does not ship to California. Ming Aralia (polyscias fruticosa), with its pale leaves and twisted bonsai-like stems, can add an elegant Asian touch to any interior. Hardy only in USDA plant hardiness zones 11 through 12, the tree is most commonly grown as a houseplant and can reach 6′ tall and 3′ wide in these conditions. Ming Aralia, usually chosen for its decorative foliage, rarely produces 6-inch white or yellow flowers indoors.
Ming grows upright with many side branches that create a layered look. The occasional display of bare branches only adds to the beauty of the plant. Each of them is unique.
Grows slowly but can reach 6 feet tall. You can also use this plant for bonsai if you want an exotic miniature.

This plant, native to India, is beautiful with deep green leaves and unique woody stems. The fluffy, spring-like, eye-catching foliage really makes it stand out as a great addition to your green collection and adds a distinctive touch to any part of your home. The light green leaves of Aralia Ming Stump contrast beautifully with the brownish-gray trunk, making it a favorite of many. Because of their structure, where they often branch horizontally, they are often used in bonsai as well.
In addition to its decorative properties, the plant’s root extract and leaves are often used medicinally or as a supplement for health or flavor purposes (although we don’t recommend trying this at home!). The root is usually eaten raw or cooked with curry in Thailand! In addition to the practical use of this plant, it is also valued as a decoration. Although it is called a “stem”, it usually refers to the height of the plant, not its woody stems at the base.
Aralia Ming Stump contains toxins that are dangerous to pets, cats and dogs! This plant may cause vomiting, mouth irritation, skin irritation, diarrhea and vomiting if swallowed. Keep your Aralia Ming stem out of the reach of pets, or avoid it if your home may not have a safe and secure place to grow.
Aralia Care — House Plant Shop
This beautiful plant is easy to grow and fairly low maintenance, making it a great choice for less confident plant parents! Requiring only moderate indirect light, low humidity, and watering when the top inch of soil is dry, helps those with less experience feel comfortable with them.
Aralia Ming Stump can survive low light conditions but prefers medium to bright indirect light. If you have it in a low light area, it can grow and become less healthy. Try to avoid direct sunlight, especially when they are placed outdoors – partially shaded patios are perfect for them!
Your plant will do best if you allow the soil to dry out between waterings. To test, you can gently stick your finger or a wooden skewer into the soil to see if the top two inches is dry! If possible, always try to rinse the soil with filtered water, rain or bottled water to keep the plant happy – the minerals found in tap water can have a negative effect on your plants. If the saucer under the pot fills up, be sure to dry it with a towel or a towel to avoid creating an environment for root rot. Aralia prefers a little moisture, so place it next to a humidifier, sprinkle it occasionally, or place it on top of a stone tray filled with water.
To keep this plant happy, keep the temperature around it as constant as possible to protect the thin root system. Keep it away from cold drafts with open windows, AC fans or doors to avoid problems with growth or damage. It enjoys warmer temperatures of 70°F or above best. 60°F is too cold and can harm the plant.
How To Grow Ming Aralia
Be sure to fertilize Aralia Ming two to three times a year between March and October, their growing season, to promote optimal growth and health. During the winter months, you can take a break from feeding your plant to rest in the shorter days. When you fertilize the plant, make sure that the indoor plant is not stressed, which can happen when it is too dry or infested with pests or diseases.
When you first get your plant, don’t repot it right away! Allow them to acclimate to their new home and wait 6-12 months or until roots emerge from the soil surface. Water the plant in the old pot before transplanting and try transplanting in late winter. Use a 2″ larger pot, place a screen in the bottom of the container to trap soil, and use a well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite, pine bark, and sphagnum peat moss to improve drainage and improve acidity. Be sure to follow our guidelines for safely moving the plant to its new home every three years.
