Muck-O is good for all Kokedama (moss ball), Kusamono (strong plant), and Seki-Joju (stone planting). The goal of Muck-O is to maintain its shape while providing soil for the plants you are working with. Muck-O retains a lot of water and when used when planting rocks on trees such as junipers and pines, be sure to use a substrate bed and build walls around the substrate. This will provide additional water to plants such as dry roots.
Where Can I Buy Bonsai Soil
Muck-O imitates the traditional KETO-TSUCHI model of Japan. Keto is basically the dead stuff from the bottom of rice bread. This dirt uses Michigan Peat, Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss and Akadama. Muck is also known as Japanese peat muck, peat clay, rise muck, and peat muck. Although recipes vary around the world, the main requirements are water, moisture retention and structural maintenance. Muck-O also uses small amounts of Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Sunflower Oil, Almond Oil, and citric acid to help reduce the chance of mold or mildew forming in the poop bag. Making a swamp in a bag has its problems. This addition will not harm the plant or Muck-O’s work.
How To Mix Your Own Bonsai Soil
We have found that adding Muck-O to our peat/potting soil mix to make Kokedamas really helps hold our dirt/mud balls together well. I will definitely buy it again.
I would have liked a little more thickness, the only reason I bought it was to build the sides of rocks with it, I worked on it and finally found that it works well with the construction of Moss on the side.

Shipping may be delayed to prevent the tree from sitting in the warehouse on weekends or holidays. Most trees are shipped Monday-Wednesday. We do not ship trees in PO, FPO, or APO boxes. We also do not ship trees from the US or California.
Calculated shipping rates: All orders (less than $99 USD or Wholesale) will be offered with calculated shipping options based on item weight, box size, and distance from our shipping location. We currently only use Fedex.
Free Shipping: All RETAIL orders over $99.00 USD ship free within the continental US. Free shipping will be the most expensive option from FedEx.
