White Spots On Fig Tree Leaves

White Spots On Fig Tree Leaves

I have a fig tree in my apartment and some white spots appear, grow more and more, and spread over more and more leaves. Can’t be removed by touching with cloth.

How To Care For A Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree

I can’t figure out what it is, it doesn’t seem common on fig trees! I suspect mildew but it doesn’t look exactly one way or the other. It looks like the result of the movement of small worms inside the exit, but it is not very similar.

Also, the underside of the leaf is brown, where white spots are located on the upper side (see photo).

These white spots are lesions caused by thrips. Indeed, in one of the images in question, a white/transparent larva can be seen:

The type of damage varies by plant (see 2), and I’ve found that thrushes are common on fig trees, but the pictures are similar to what thrips can sometimes produce on the tops of eggplant leaves (see this photo) or on the undersides of bean plant leaves (see this photo).

White spots on the leaves of fig leaves may be a sign that the water you are using may be too hard. White spots are mineral residue…if you are using highly mineralized tap water……distilled water is always best for any houseplant.

Answers To Common Issues With Fiddle Leaf Figs

I looked up fig tree diseases (and there are many!) but I couldn’t find a match for my problem. Can anyone help? Many leaves look like this – most of the leaves are eaten and have a hole or pale white mesh (I’m guessing leaf veins). I did not see curled leaves on both sides of the leaf, no aphids, ants, blisters, and no brown or yellow spots anywhere. We are in the south of France. Comments??

After doing some more research, the Tortrix Moth Rug provides a good fit. I wonder if the OP would be willing to comment?

It is an insect, or insect larva, that causes this skeleton in the leaves. If you don’t see caterpillars or other creatures feeding during the day, take a flashlight at night and investigate what happens after dark. It may be too late to see the cause – if you have a few larvae, they will now pupate or hatch (moth, sawfly) to become adults.

I looked up what could be causing these holes in the leaves of the tree in my big bonsai guide. Two options appeared, caterpillars or vine weevils (

What’s Wrong With My Fiddle Leaf Fig?

If you do a google search to see how the holes differ from the two options, I see that the pattern caterpillars look more like your pictures than the ones that made a beak.

It looks like the moth starts from the side of the leaf and eats through the veins, but the caterpillar eats from the center and jumps into the veins, leaving those mugs like your picture. So I think it’s caterpillars, some kind, you can see some (or they’re already pups).

Personal note: I have seen similar damage from an asphalt roof to a plant at the base of the wall. Note the causes of proximal physical damage – in cases where the water was hard enough to cause damage, but mild damage rather than a full rip/tear.

It is a small caterpillar. I had the same one and was looking at similar coverage on the internet. Wipe it off if you can or treat it with a suitable insecticide. You may prefer not to use pesticides because it is a fig, or your tree may be too large.
